The Challenge, The Solution, The Results
The newest, (and largest) high rise apartment building in Boston is the New Zn (zinc) apartments. The name reportedly was chosen by the owners as a place where people will want to call home, have a place that will (like zinc) last forever. The Artist hired to help with the design work was the very popular Fred Plowright, with Artist for Humanity, a mentoring program in Boston.
Mr. Plowright approached the local galvanizer on how he could incorporate zinc in the adverting of the new facility. The new sign in front of the apartment building was the perfect sustainable answer, and obviously was a great use for zinc and hot-dip galvanizing.
Now thousands of people who go by the building weekly, and the hundreds of residents and their visitors who walk by daily will see the new signage for Zinc Apartments in Downtown Boston and have a better idea of the benefits of zinc and hot-dip galvanizing.
