Ridgely Solar Farm

The Challenge, The Solution, The Results
* The lights on the quaint main street of Ridgely Tennessee (population 1,800) are now being powered by electricity provided by the nearby Ridgely Solar Energy Farm covering approximately 1,300 acres in Lake County, Tennessee. The project was a response to customers’ desire for a strong renewable energy source; the Ridgely Energy Farm Solar Project is able to generate up to 177 megawatts which can power up to 500,000 homes.
* The project consisted of roughly 30,000 solar posts weighing in at 6,100 tons that were hot-dip galvanizing for Wind Turbine & Energy Cables (WTEC). The project was on an accelerated 18-week schedule and required 6 to 8 truckloads per day to be galvanized and moved to the project site in Ridgely, TN. Since there were so many different sizes of posts and hole patterns for bolted connections in the field communication between the fabricator and the galvanizer were of the upmost importance to make sure the right loads were being processed and sent to the construction site. The hot dip galvanized coating will protect the steel from corrosion during its service life in the project.
