Minotaur

The Minotaur is approximately 10 feet tall, 13 feet deep, and 9.5 feet wide and weighs about 1.2 tons. Commissioned for a prestigious private sculpture collection outside Mexico City, it represents the ancient mythical Minotaur half man/half bull beast, and it will be placed in the center of a maze on the estate. The sculptor, Andy Scott, fabricated the piece at his studios - starting in Glasgow, Scotland and finished in Philadelphia.

The Minotaur took around 10 months to create, as it was sculpted by hand and eye, without the use of a computer. Once finished, it was hot-dip galvanized and then painted a bronze metallic. Andy Scott is a Scottish sculptor born in 1964, he graduated with honors from the Glasgow School of Art in 1986 in Fine Art Sculpture, and in 1987 with a diploma in Postgraduate Studies.

He has designed galvanized sculptures all over the world - London, Australia, Scotland, Aberdeen, and the latest for this private collection in Mexico City. We were very proud to be asked to be part of his collection. "I've done many sculptures in this technique around the world, but this is the first to be compiled from my new Philadelphia studio and hopefully will be the first of many working here in the USA," said Andy.

"All of my works have utilized galvanized steel, the most popular is back in my homeland of Glasgow, Scotland. "The Kelpies" are monumental horse heads rising out of the Earth near Falkirk, Scotland in which I completed in November of 2013."
