This bridge is open to the public for a pedestrian walkway at the Kentucky Lake State Park. There was concern for things like bikes, skateboards, and the harsh winters that come off of the lake in the winter. They selected galvanizing as a durable coating that would not scratch or mar under the aggressiveness of the public, and would not corrode during the winter snow and ice.

They did not want a "re-coating" to add to their maintenance budget. In addition, they realized the time they could put apply a paint coating would be in the time of year the public would want to utilize the bridge.
