The Massachusetts DOT had confidence in a Duplex System of paint over hot-dip galvanizing. All of the replacement steel on this structured was specified for a duplex coating. The DOT was familiar with specifying HDG, as well as the inspection criteria.

By using a duplex system on the replacement steel, the DOT would now get long-term performance, color choice, and little maintenance. Kenneth Burns Memorial Bridge
