Bunker Hill Fence Restoration

The Bunker Hill area is one of the most highly trafficked tourist areas in Boston. The fence and railings surrounding the area were in need of restoration to ensure all visitors remained safe. Originally, the architect specified a simple powder coating for all of the rails.

The architect was aware of the aggressiveness of the Boston environment; however, after a bad experience with a previous duplex system felt powder coating was the best option. The fabricator for the project had been working on a similar project with the galvanizer at Fenway Park, where a duplex system of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating was specified for the railing refurbishment. The fabricator suggested the architect consider a duplex system, and got the galvanizer involved in the project.

The galvanizer spent a lot of time explaining how a duplex system could be used successfully and showed project examples. The architect was still not fully convinced, so the galvanizer confident in his product, offered to galvanize and powder coat the first phase at no cost. Once the architect saw the smooth finish and successful adhesion of the powder coating, he agreed to purchase a duplexed coating for the rest of the project.

Thanks to the superior corrosion protection of galvanized steel partnered with the black powder coating, the Bunker Hill Fence will remain aesthetically pleasing and safe for tourists well into the future.
